Free trees will be given away from 10 a . m . until 1 p . m . , or while supplies last , on Friday , March 18 , at the Garland County Library , 1427 Malvern Avenue .  
   The event is being sponsored by the Urban & Community Forestry Program of the Arkansas Department of Agriculture – Forestry Division . It is a part of the program’s “Free Tree Fridays , ” being held at sites across the state from March 18 – April 29 to celebrate the 150
   th
   anniversary of Arbor Day .  
   Chinkapin Oak , Shumard Oak and Red Mulberry tree seedlings will be available , with a limit of five per person .  
   The City of Hot Springs has two representatives on the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council – Anthony Whittington , director of Parks & Trails , is president and Allen Bates , Urban Forester , is a board member – and they will be assisting in the tree giveaway .
   Two tree giveaways hosted by Bates and the Arkansas Forestry Commission ( AFC ) in 2021 added approximately 800 trees to the Hot Springs urban landscape .  
   The 2021 tree giveaways supplemented the lack of the Arbor Day event in Hot Springs , which had to be canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID - 19 pandemic . The Arbor Day event is returning this year , and it is scheduled for Friday , April 29 , at Entergy Park . Fifth - grade students from area schools will be attending the Arbor Day event , which will feature eight educational stations through which the students rotate to get hands - on information about a range of topics . The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is scheduled to bring their fish tank , the Arkansas Forestry Commission will be bringing Smokey Bear and there will be a sawmill demonstration . Mayor Pat McCabe will present an Arbor Day Proclamation , and the program will conclude with the planting of a tree at the park .  
   The Arbor Day event is one of the initiatives that qualify the City of Hot Springs for the National Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program , for which the City has been recognized for 21 consecutive years .
