It ' s a day for the United States to acknowledge the progress and achievements of trans people in their ongoing fight for equality . We ' re committed to supporting their rights and making sure they ' re included and respected . Sadly , in many places , trans people face violence , discrimination , and limits on their freedoms , like the right to express themselves and gather peacefully . It ' s not right . Transgender individuals should be able to live as their true selves , safely and with dignity . They deserve accurate identification , healthcare that meets their needs , and equal opportunities in life . There ' s still a lot of work to be done , and we ' re calling on our partners worldwide to join forces with the United States in creating a world where transgender individuals can live freely and openly as who they are .
