The Thermo Fisher facility has operated in Frederick County since 1978 , where it was originally known under the name Technicon Instruments . The facility’s physical footprint has grown significantly over the course of those 45 years through multiple expansions . It is one of Thermo Fisher’s five global clinical diagnostics sites , with the others operating in Freemont , California; Nimes , France; Hennigsdorf , Germany; and Vantaa , Finland .

There are a lot of different positions within the facility . We have line operators , entry level positions in the lab , and we have a lot of people that work in the lab that have just finished their college degrees that are looking for somewhere to start their career . I started here just over six years ago . I worked as a lab tech for about two years and then transferred to our product support department as a Scientist . I spent a couple of years there and then I moved to the role I’m in now as a Scientist with the Quality Control Lab .
