TELEPHONE SCAM ALERT
   Citizens are reporting that they have received phone calls from a person identifying themselves as "Lieutenant Fast with the Leavenworth County Sheriff ' s Office" -
   THIS IS A TELEPHONE SCAM .
   The person is telling the citizen that they have various types of court documents to include subpoenas and warrants for their arrest and are demanding money .  
   The Leavenworth County Sheriff ' s Office staff WILL NOT contact citizens and advise of such documents existing and will not demand payment over the telephone .
   HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF
   Verify before providing any personal information , money , banking information or gift cards to a caller .   Legitimate businesses do not ask for gift card payment .
   Caller ID showing a "local" telephone number does not necessarily mean it is a local number .
   Ask for the caller ' s name and telephone number
   Hang up and check a trusted website for the businesses ' actual telephone number .
   Call the actual listed business telephone number and ask if they are attempting to contact you .
   When using a cellular telephone - block the unknown telephone number , so the scammer cannot call you again .
   You should do the same as above when receiving a text or email .
