Job Description
Unless otherwise stated, all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications stated herein are essential functions of this position.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Playground Camp Leader will lead activities and programs at Cottage Grove parks for youth, ages 4 -13. Emphasis is on arts and crafts, music, sports and active playground games including some field trips.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
The Playground Camp Leader will work between 15 – 20 hours per week from June – August.
Mon-Fri 12:45-4:00 pm at Northlawn Park. June 13-Aug 7.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
Provides constant supervision and leadership for program participants
Responsible for planning daily and weekly activities.
Instructs and leads participants in games, arts-n-crafts, storytelling/music and serves as a chaperone for all youth field trips and special events.
Performs daily safety inspections of playground area and equipment, reporting any problems to the Recreation Supervisor.
Provides effective communication with parents and members of the community about Cottage Grove Parks & Recreation programs
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of supervising children in an educational or recreational setting and leading kids in active games and/or arts-n-crafts.
Must be able to withstand frequent standing, walking and running during the day
Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision
Ability to supervise other staff
