THE COUNTY OF FRESNO RECEIVES NOTICE OF STRIKE DELAY FROM
FRESNO COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY ASSOCIATION
FRESNO , CA –
On Thursday , May 19 , 2022 , the Fresno County Superior Court ruled that 145
Fresno County Correctional Officers , as determined by the Public Employment Relations
Board , must report to work to uphold public safety regardless of a strike . Today , the County of
Fresno ( County ) was informed that the Fresno County Public Safety Association ( FCPSA ) will
postpone their strike until June 20 , 2022 , at 6:00 a . m .
Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled . Employees who engage in any form
of job action before June 20th will be considered to be engaged in an unauthorized and
unlawful “wildcat” strike in violation of California law . This prohibition on unlawful strikes
includes sickouts .
The County and FCPSA engaged in months of negotiations , including nine meetings to date
and three State Mediation sessions . In March , the Association declined the County’s Last Best
and Final Offer . On May 8 , 2022 , FCPSA provided the County of Fresno with a written notice
of its intent to strike . As a result , the County filed an injunction to ensure that essential County
services are not interrupted .
The County’s Last Best and Final Offer includes base salary increases of 11% and increases
to health insurance contributions , as well as 7 . 5% in retention premium pays , a one - time
pandemic payment of $1 , 500 , a one - time and $500 payment for Correctional Officers and
Juvenile Correctional Officers who work in a congregate setting , and other benefits ( see
attached infographic ) .
The County has provided FCPSA members with information on their rights related to the strike .
Members have a legal right not to strike . If they choose to participate in a strike , employees are
not entitled to regular pay during the time they’re striking , nor can they use their vacation or
sick time .
The County continues to work with FCPSA to prevent a strike .
