Storm Update , Monday , Feb . 12 – 6:30 p . m .
Our latest weather forecasts are somewhat slippery with predictions right now of anywhere from 3 to 8 inches of snow in Newton tomorrow , Tuesday , Feb . 12 .
Because of the variances we’re seeing in the forecasts , we’ll be making decisions on whether City buildings , programs and schools will close in the wee hours tomorrow morning . If there are closures , we will post the announcement on
newtonma . govbetween 5:00 a . m . and 6:00 a . m .
If the weather forecast takes a turn for the worst and schools , City Hall and other municipal buildings need to close , I will also send out an email Update by 6 a . m . ( No email by 6 a . m . means good news . )
Please also be mindful that the current worst - case forecast includes heavy , wet snow falling steadily during the day tomorrow , accumulating 1 to 2 inches per hour at times before ending between 5:00 and 8:00 p . m .
If
this occurs , we’ll need to call a
Snow Emergency Parking Banthat would go into effect tomorrow morning , Tuesday , most likely at 9:00 a . m . Should this happen , cars cannot be parked on the street , in municipal parking lots , or school parking lots ( including under solar canopies ) to allow DPW crews and contractors to plow effectively . If left on the street or in city/school parking lots , cars may be towed .
One thing we do know tonight is that our trash and recycling hauler Waste Management let us know today they are
delaying trash and recycling collection one day
because of the storm . Trash and recycling will
notbe collected on Tuesday , so people on the Tuesday route should put their bins out on Wednesday , Wednesday on Thursday , Thursday on Friday , and Friday on Saturday . To prevent issues with snow clearing , please do not set trash and recycling carts out until Tuesday evening for Wednesday pickup .
Let’s cross our fingers that the worst of the storm misses us .
