   SENIOR NETWORK SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR DUTIES:
   Select networking solutions based upon intense research, analysis and evaluation of networking technologies, networking hardware, network operating systems, and network-based software. 
   Research, analyze, recommend, install, configure, troubleshoot and test LAN (Local Area Network)/WAN (Wide Area Network) equipment.
   Develop and constantly update network procedures, standards and physical layout documentation.
   Maintain in constant contact with outside vendors and internal/external agencies to keep up on new and evolving technologies as they effect current and future county goals.
   Implement and constantly monitor network security and report findings to ITS Director for resolution.
   Maintenance and upgrade of entire Porter County network infrastructure including Sheriff and 911 departments. Monitor/optimize network traffic using network management suites.
   Travel to user sites for problem determination and resolution, installation of computer hardware/software, and training.
   Recommend policy guidelines for network procedures, standards, and documentation.
   Resolve escalated Level 3 Help Desk tickets.
   Provide end-user support in the following areas:
   Training
   Determine the nature of problems and coordinate solution internally or utilize outside v
   endors.
   Evaluation of hardware/software. Assist user departments in planning and 
   recommending future hardware and software acquisitions. Review and evaluate all new P
   C hardware and software product developments including frequent referral to relevant 
    manuals and periodicals.
    
   Perform the following system administration activities:
   User account/group/network printer management
   Install/upgrade network software
   Schedule/perform backups of servers
   Virus protection management
   Web filter management
   Virtual server management
    
   Performs related duties as assigned.
    
   RESPONSIBILITIES
   :
   Incumbent’s work affects the operations of County government offices and personnel requiring ITS services and equipment.   Department goals and objectives are well established, but subject to changes necessitated by evolving needs of departments.  Work is reviewed by ITS Director for soundness of judgement, attainments of objectives, and effect on departmental goals.
   Network project management.
   Maintain network equipment inventory.
   Maintain VoIP systems.
   Coordinate technological solutions by working with outside vendors.
   Ability to analyze a wide range of problems stemming from a vast variety of sources with varying   degrees of intricacy to determine cause in the absence of established methodology or practices.
   Meets often with supervisor to discuss work priorities, problems, status updates, correspondence, user needs, and issues relevant to PC-based networks.
    
   JOB REQUIREMENTS:
   Degree in Computer Science, Business, Management, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience preferred.
    
   Thorough knowledge of and extensive experience with computer information systems, including data processing concepts, hardware, data communications, systems analysis and design techniques, and programming, management techniques, quantitative analysis methods, project planning and control, and ability to effectively perform the essential duties of the position.
    
   Specific knowledge of software for the following programs: Windows Server 2019/2016; Windows 7/10; SolarWinds NPM; FirePower Management Software; DUO UAG/2 Factor Authentication; Cisco AnyConnect; FireEye Network Security Appliance and end point agents; Umbrella/Cisco AMP; Ironport; Meraki Dashboard/VPN Concentrator; VMware.
    
   Specific knowledge of hardware for the following: HP/Dell Servers; HP/Cisco/Meraki networking equipment; TCP/IP; Ethernet; Fiber; WAN DS3 WAN equipment and Voice Gateways.
    
   Preferred knowledge of: Cisco VoIP software; MS Office Suite
   ; 
   and Internet usage/technology.
    
   Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with and train co-workers and computer users, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
    
   Ability to communicate and work effectively with vendors to resolve problems and evaluate new and existing hardware and software.
    
   Working knowledge of functions and purposes of various County offices as applicable to data processing needs.
    
   Possession of a valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
    
   DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
   Incumbents duties involve a wide range of research, analysis, and recommendations that require careful consideration of users’ needs and wants.  Activities and decisions are constantly changing industry standards and emerging technologies.
    
   Incumbent’s duties require extensive planning and development of resources, involving consideration of the diverse requirements of a variety of County services and agencies.  Varying system needs require analysis and judgement to be made, and may require adaptation of existing systems and techniques.
   PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
   Incumbent’s work primarily effects computer users in all County departments requiring PC processing systems, and may substantially influence procedures and work techniques of such offices.  Work is reviewed for technical accuracy and attainment of objectives, with any unusual situations or problems referred to supervisor for analysis.
    
   Incumbent maintains frequent communication with all County office holders that have computer systems and/or are planning systems, with department heads, IT staff, and computer users for a variety of purposes, including analysis of current systems, training of users, installation of hardware/software, trouble shooting and evaluation of new software and hardware needs.  Also maintains communication with computer hardware/software vendors for a variety of purposes including determination of data processing needs, presentation of budget and reports, supervisory duties, evaluation and purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
    
   Incumbent reports directly to ITS Director.
    
   PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
   Incumbent performs duties in a computer center and occasionally is required to lift boxes and equipment weighing 25 to 75 pounds.   Duties require automobile travel to various sites for installation of equipment, troubleshooting and training users.   The position requires routine crawling under, over and around furniture, partitions and ceilings to install cabling for various PC equipment.
