Expands
the useful period of fire trucks under the Local Bond Law , as follows:
A
ll
fire
engines , apparatus , and equipment
when
purchased
new
from 10 years to 20 years .
Vehicles based on gross vehicle weight rating ( GVWR ) with:
GVWR below
15 , 000 pounds
to 5 years .
GVWR
in excess of
15 , 000 pounds
to 10 years
.
T
he bill
also
expands the ability to bond for major repairs , reconditioning , or overhaul of certain vehicles to include public works vehicles with a GVWR in excess of
15 , 000 pounds
and heavy equipment with a weight in excess of
10 , 000 pounds
.
The bill defines GVWR as the “value
specified by the manufacturer as the loaded weight of a single or combination ( articulated ) vehicle . The GVWR of a combination ( articulated ) vehicle , commonly referred to as the
“
gross combination weight rating
”
or
“
GCWR ,
”
is the GVWR of the power unit plus the GVWR of the towed unit or units .
”
The bill
, which would take effect
immediately
,
unanimously passed the Assembly in December . If passed by the Senate on January 8
,
the bill would head to Governor Murphy’s desk .
