JOB SUMMARY:
The City of Rochester's Public Works Department is seeking candidates for seasonal positions in the Public Works Parks Division. The City desires to fill two (2) positions. This is a general laborer field position involving trash collection, lawn mowing and landscaping, bathroom cleaning, tree and brush trimming,
city beautification, assisting road crews, and other general grounds maintenance work as assigned.
This appointee is required to interact in a pleasant and helpful manner with fellow employees, subordinates, visitors, business owners, potential business owners, outside agencies and citizens of the City, and demonstrates the highest standards of internal and external customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDING, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
These seasonal positions perform semi-skilled manual work in public works construction and maintenance activities. Work is performed under the direction of the Parks Foreman. Duties will include but not limited to
trash collection, lawn mowing and landscaping, bathroom cleaning, tree and brush trimming,
city beautification, assisting road crews, and other general grounds maintenance work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age. High School diploma or GED, be able to follow verbal and written instructions, have a valid Michigan Driver’s License, able to use various hand tools, stand and walk for extended periods of time, lift on occasion 80 pounds, and work outside in varying temperatures. The employee must be willing to work up to 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 1,560 annual hours. The schedule will typically be five (5) days a week during a Monday - Friday work week, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with scheduled breaks and lunch breaks. The City is flexible with scheduling, and this position could extend into Fall months for leaf collection, if desired.
SELECTION:
Candidate screening process may consist of an application review, skills testing, employability assessment, interviews, reference checks, and other verifications. Chosen candidates will be subject to a background and criminal history investigation, and qualifying pre-employment medical examination and drug screen.
