Washington County Public Health is currently accepting applications for
Supervising Public Health Nurse*
. The work involves responsibility for supervising public health nursing activities and participating in division-wide planning and policy formation. The work varies according to assignment, however in general, the incumbent schedules, assigns, reviews and evaluates nursing activities, reviews documentation, attends case conferences, interprets federal, state and local public health rules and regulations, and participates in a variety of planning and/or policy meetings. This position differs from that of Public Health Nurse in that a Supervising Public Health exercises supervision over field nurses and is involved in planning and policy development. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Health with leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate nursing personnel. Does related work as required.
Evenings and weekends may be required.
*This is a Civil Service Competitive position. Provisional appointee must take a future-dated Training & Experience exam and be reachable on the resulting Eligible List.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university or one accredited by the New York State registered college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, and two (2) years of experience in providing public health nursing services.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
:
License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
2. Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s license or otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
3. A Supervising Public Health Nurse must complete 15 hours of continuing education in public health and management related topics (see Job Description) approved by New York State Department of Health within the first year of employment in this title.
RATE OF PAY
: $34.42/hour (2021 rate) plus benefits and NYS retirement
