City leadership is pleased to announce that Natalie Ruffin will be the new Director of Germantown Parks and Recreation , effective July 1 .  
   Formerly the department’s assistant director and recreation services manager , Ruffin has worked alongside current Director Pam Beasley to provide premium Parks and Recreation programming for almost 17 years . She has played a key role in creating and implementing recreation and community education programs and services and will continue to do so as she takes the reins for the entire department .
   “For almost two decades , the City and our customers have benefited from Natalie ' s consistency in managing various aspects of the Parks and Recreation Department , said City Administrator Jason Huisman . Now , we ' re looking forward to watching how Natalie ' s passion , work ethic and leadership style positively impacts all departmental divisions and services for years to come . ”
   A graduate of the University of Mississippi with a Master of Arts in Recreation , Ruffin also attended Germantown’s Municipal Management Academy and the National Recreation and Parks Association’s Directors School I and II in Oakbrook , Illinois . She is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional ( CPRP ) and a Certified Park and Recreation Executive ( CPRE ) , as well as a 2017 SPIRIT Award winner .
   “I am so excited and thankful for this opportunity . I love this city , this department and I am honored to step up into the position of the Parks and Recreation Director , ” Ruffin said . “It is a great privilege to lead and serve one of the best departments in the country . As we move ahead , this department will continue to work to protect and enhance the quality of life of those we serve . ”
   In her free time , Ruffin is an outdoor enthusiast who particularly enjoys backpacking , camping and hiking . She’s often accompanied by her two enthusiastic furry companions , Tess and Wyatt - both goldadors ( a mix of golden retriever and labrador retriever ) - who enjoy the outdoors as much as she does . If you see Ruffin out and about in one of our parks , for a conversation starter , ask her about her adventures backpacking the Appalachian Trail .
