Construction is expected to begin in the left lane and move to the right as work progresses . At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight .
In addition , at 11 p . m . Friday , January 5 , ten side streets intersecting with Route 70 westbound between Kings Highway/Route 41 and Garden State Boulevard will be closed and detoured until summer 2024 . By 6 a . m . Saturday , traffic on Route 70 westbound will be shifted to the left onto the temporary roadway in the median to create a work zone in the right lane and shoulder . The work is part of a $153 million state - funded Route 70 corridor safety and improvement project that will improve gas and watermains , upgrade traffic signals at 27 intersections , replace or install four Dynamic Message Signs , improve drainage , sidewalks , and resurface approximately 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Cherry Hill and Cooper Avenue in Evesham . In addition to milling and paving Route 70 , the North Maple Avenue loop ramps and the Route 70/Route 73 interchange ramps will be repaved as well . The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026 .
