The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for a
Right of Way Mower/Heavy Equipment Operator
in the
Parks and Recreation
Department
. The City of Mont Belvieu is a growing community located on IH-10 east of Houston, Texas in Chambers County.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision,
this position is responsible for operating the
slope mower, interstater and spray truck in order to keep the rights-of-way, medians, and ditches clear. Additional responsibilities include general repairs, light carpentry and installation of equipment, as needed.
This is an essential position and will be required to provide services during emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for mowing rights-of-ways, easements, medians, parks and other assigned sites within the City of Mont Belvieu.
Operates spray truck including mixing and loading pesticides for use on truck.
Maintains pesticides storage to State requirements and keeps spray records and paperwork in computer.
Operates other heavy equipment including front end loader, dump truck, and tractor with auxiliary equipment, stump grinder, and ditch witch. Hooks up auxiliary equipment for tractor and changes this equipment dependent upon needs.
Performs daily pre-trip equipment inspection, fueling unit, and preventive maintenance service by checking fluid levels, filters, tires, etc. to ensure optimum operation and performance.
Performs installation, general repair, and upgrade of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry relating to Parks and Recreation Department.
Keep ditches mowed to prevent flooding and control rodents.
Cut limbs in rights-of-way.
Performs welding, dirt, concrete work and other duties as assigned.
Performs general repairs and light carpentry work as needed.
Orders part and materials as needed.
Installs and repairs playground equipment.
May be required to fill in on other crews as needed as needed and during rainy days and during winter months.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work related issues and City information.
May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City wide emergency.
Performs any and all other related duties or assignments as assigned.
During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Two (2) years’ related experience.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
Valid State of Texas Class "B" commercial driver’s license with endorsement of air brakes, cargo, and combination must be obtained within six (6) months of date of hire.
Spray Truck Operator must possess a Certified Non-Commercial Applicator’s License issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture and must be obtained within six (6) months of date of hire.
Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screen, job related physical and background check.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Heavy Equipment Operators other than Spray Truck Operator - Possess a Certified Non-Commercial Applicator’s License issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Valid class “A” CDL Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Thorough knowledge of hazards, safety rules, and regulations applicable to the operation of large tractors on rights of way and streets.
Knowledge of ditch map reading, and street safety.
Ability to perform major repairs and build, repair, and install equipment as needed.
Knowledge of the safe use of pesticides.
Ability to read and understand pesticide labels and warnings.
Ability to utilize and comprehend maps depicting city streets and blocks.
Knowledge of preventive vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions.
Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, climb, use foot control, hear and see.
