   Readout of Secretary Raimondo’s Meeting with Minister of Economy , Trade , and Industry Hagiuda Koichi of Japan Export and investment promotion FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday , May 4 , 2022 Office of Public Affairs publicaffairs@doc . gov Today , Secretary of Commerce Gina M . Raimondo and Minister of Economy , Trade and Industry of Japan Hagiuda Koichi convened the first Cabinet - level meeting of the Japan - United States Commercial and Industrial Partnership ( JUCIP ) to assess the work , progress , and achievements of JUCIP since its launch in November 2021 . The Secretary and Minister noted progress facilitated by JUCIP , particularly in the areas of semiconductor supply chains and export controls . During their meeting , Secretary Raimondo and Minister Hagiuda expressed shared intent for JUCIP cooperation on semiconductor supply chains to be based on the principles of open markets , transparency , and free trade , with a shared objective of strengthening supply chain resiliency between the U . S . , Japan , and other like - minded countries across the region . The Secretary also expressed her gratitude to Minister Hagiuda and the Government of Japan for their continued support and feedback that will help advance the launch of the Indo - Pacific Economic Framework .
