Public Utilities Director Town of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina
The Town of North Wilkesboro seeks a new Public Utilities Director with significant capital project experience. North Wilkesboro (population approximately 4,400) is located in central Wilkes County halfway between Winston-Salem and Boone. It provides approximately 952,711,000 gallons per year of clean drinking water to approximately 1,800 regular accounts and four rural water associations with a combined customer base of 19,152 rural residents. It treats approximately 474,176,909 gallons of waste water per year. The new Director will be tasked with overseeing a utility in the midst of a significant period of transition, with two significant capital projects underway, and at least two more on the horizon. An engineering study is also underway that will identify what measures need to be taken to physically connect with our neighbor the Town of Wilkesboro’s system so that the two towns may safely and responsibly share water with one other. The Director will be asked to take lead on this effort, and help shepherd all facility, treatment, billing, and rate changes that may be required to make the process successful. The ideal candidate will have: 1.) A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with coursework in a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; 2.) Demonstrated experience in water and wastewater administration that includes the chemical analysis associated with water and waste water treatment, compliance with state/federal environmental regulations, oversight of capital projects, and rate setting methodologies; and 3.) Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the town’s elected officials, executive leadership, and the general public.
