Williamson County Government is seeking a Public Safety Director to oversee all operations of the Office of Public Safety (OPS) and all of its underlying departments.
A person in this position is expected to facilitate relationships between the OPS departments and other interested public and private entities; and to use effective leadership skills to create and maintain cooperative working relationships with local government officials and employees, public safety agencies including law enforcement, fire service, emergency communications (911), emergency medical services (EMS), emergency management (EMA), appointed boards, commissions, other stakeholders, and the public. Must be able to organize complex operations involving multiple organizations and agencies involved in emergency preparedness and response. Must possess excellent communication skills- interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. A person in this position should possess dynamic leadership abilities, problem-solving abilities, be able to make difficult decisions and exercise sound judgment.
Other responsibilities include but are not limited to developing and implementing strategic plans, collaborative leadership, supervision of staff, preparation and monitoring the department budgets, project management, the departmental payroll process, overseeing and ensuring the accuracy of various management reports, preparing and presenting to elected officials/community members/and local groups, attending meetings during and outside of normal business hours, and represents Williamson County by serving on multiple committees, boards and councils.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Public or Business Administration/Management, Fire Science, Emergency Management or related field preferred. Significant experience in the field of Public Safety with a focus on 911, emergency management and the fire service required. Significant leadership experience is required.
After hours work will be required. Must be able to respond on emergency calls and to the Emergency Operations Center as needed including making field visits to sites impacted by natural or manmade disasters, which may require the physical condition necessary to climb or walk in rough terrain, lift heavy objects, use emergency equipment, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and communicate effectively and efficiently.
