Public Safety Officer Ryan Mowen was named Officer of the Year and Firefighter/EMT Pete Duffy was named Rookie of the Year , and many other awards were presented at the Shores Public Safety Awards on May 20 . Mowen has been a Public Safety Officer since August 2018 , and Duffy joined the department last July .
   The awards program , wrapping up National Police Week , was the first held in several years due to the COVID pandemic . Other awards presented at the program were:
   Administrative Excellence – Lt . R . J . Medders
   Director’s Special Recognition – Sgt . Kathryn Gotz
   Civilian of the Year – Kelley Register , Crime Scene Analyst
   Meritorious Service – Sgt . Vincent Castellano and Officers Jacob Franklin and Heather Wooleyhan
   Volunteer Awards – Richard “Ace” Beeman and Charles Hall
   Lifesaving Awards – Four Lifesaving Awards were presented to individual officers or pairs of officers for actions that saved a person’s life . Recipients were Officer Laura Diedesch , Detective Sgt . Jessica Long , Officer Jack Ransom , Firefighter/Paramedic Jodie Stafford , Paramedic Matthew Sweeney and Officer Jeff Zephir
   Teamwork Awards – Eight Teamwork Awards were given for officer teams who worked on a specific criminal case . Recipients of the Teamwork Awards were Firefighter/Paramedic Brad Blad , Evidence Technician Brian Bruggemann , Detective Daniel Carrazana , Detective Darius DeBarros ( who has since died ) , Officer Laura Diedesch , Detective Jordan Duffy , Detective Sgt . Jessica Long , Detective Gary Malphurs , Lt . R . J . Medders , Officer Ryan Mowen , Sgt . Bill Phillips , Sgt . Richard Rademacher , Crime Scene Analyst Kelley Register , Officer Sean Rooney , Officer Zachary Rooney , Lt . Michael Schoenbrod , Officer Trevor Wyman and Officer Jeff Zephir
