Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen will conduct a public hearing , before considering on second reading , a change in the City’s sign ordinance intended to reduce sign clutter , maximize available parking spaces during business hours and provide a pathway for businesses with non - conforming signage to seek approval . The public hearing will take place during the February 12 meeting of the BMA which begins at 6 p . m . in Council Chambers at City Hall , 1930 S . Germantown Road . Stakeholders are encouraged to share their comments with the Board .
Proposed updates to the ordinance are the result of unregulated signs being added by many businesses during the COVID - 19 pandemic as business models were adapted to accommodate curbside pickup . With businesses having returned to normal operations , many of these temporary signs remain , limiting parking at a time when the City’s available retail space is 98% occupied . The ordinance changes , if adopted , will set consistent standards and assign a review and approval process for these signs .
