ESSENTIAL DUTIES
:
Working knowledge of the accepted principles and practices of Public Health Nursing and public health laws, regulations, and related operations, methods, safety measures, with the ability to effectively evaluate and treat individuals accordingly.
Conducts a variety of County Health programs including children’s, adults and travel immunizations, TB testing and reading, HIV/STD counseling and testing, and various health screenings.
Responds to telephone calls, questions and complaints from members of the public, including scheduling appointments, making referrals, interviews, counseling, and providing other health related information. Fields phone calls from hospitals, nursing homes and physicians on reports of communicable diseases and does epidemiology investigations.
Ability to effectively prepare and present educational materials and maintain positive community support and public relations.
Monitors professional publications and other literature to maintain current knowledge of developments, local services, and new issues related to Public Health Nursing.
Attends in-service programs and professional education workshops/training seminars as required.
Effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues and all Health Department staff.
Performs related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor degree in Nursing or related field.
Active Indiana Registered Nurse license.
Certification in CPR, TB testing and reading, HIV/STD counseling and testing or able to be trained.
Possession of valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
Working knowledge of accepted principles and practices of Public Health Nursing with ability to effectively examine and screen individuals, assess needs, and provide information, treatments, assistance , and referrals as appropriate.
Working knowledge of health and social services available to Porter County residents, with the ability to facilitate referrals as appropriate.
Ability to examine, screen, and treat individuals onsite, in a home, clinic, hospital, or other public or health-related environment, requiring physical effort such as bending, stooping, lifting individuals or equipment.
Ability to effectively communicate with members of the public and personnel from a variety of other health –related agencies, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all Health Department records and information.
Ability to perform moderate complexity lab tests.
Ability to perform blood draws and fingersticks.
Ability to occasionally work evening or weekend hours.
