   JOB SUMMARY:  
    
   The Police Officer Recruit will be responsible for receiving Mineral Wells Police Department pre-academy training along with Weatherford College Police Academy training for the purpose of completing the necessary qualifications to obtain a peace officer license through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one year of employment.
   Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the first available law enforcement academy and licensure from TCOLE as a Texas Peace Officer
   .
   Successful candidates must sign an educational repayment agreement that generally states training expenses will be reimbursed to the City of Mineral Wells immediately and in full in event officer recruit resigns, terminates, or otherwise separates employment prior to completion of a three-year commitment with the Mineral Wells Police Department.
   Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
    
   Attends pre-academy training activities, receives and demonstrates understanding of class room and field instructions in report writing, geographical comprehension, and department policies.
   Maintains or exceeds passing score (75%) in all areas reviewed during the pre-academy training.
   Attends Weatherford College Police Academy at the campus job site as determined by the WCPA staff along with other police-related training activities as may be necessary to receive classroom and field instruction in basic police methods, laws, policies, and ordinances.
   Maintains passing score (75%) in all subjects of instruction while attending the Weatherford College Police Academy, subject to periodic review.
   Meets or exceeds minimum physical fitness curriculum before and while attending the Police Academy.
   Reports deficiency or difficulties in meeting minimum set standards of the Police Academy to the Field Training Manager in a timely manner.
   When the Police Academy is not in session reports to work at the Mineral Wells Police Department for assignment as required by the Field Training Sergeant.
   Performs duties according to the City, Academy, and departmental safety rules and policies.
   Performs all other job related duties as assigned or as becomes apparent.
   Ability to get along with other employees and the public.
    
   PHYSICAL AND ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS:
    
   Police Officer Recruit will be exposed to physical stress and exertion in the Police Academy. Police Officer Recruit will be exposed to possibly dangerous criminals on an ongoing basis after completion of the Academy. Police Officer Recruit must work in seasonal temperatures and may be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals and diseases. Sufficient physical ability and stamina to bend, run, lift and crawl into small spaces and to restrain suspects. May walk, stand for long periods, ride patrol in either a patrol vehicle, or on a cycle. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle at high speeds during emergencies. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, co-peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    
   REQUIRED CONTACTS
    
   Ability to effectively communicate with Mineral Wells Police FTO Manager, Mineral Wells Police employees, Police Academy Director, teachers, and other Police Academy Police Officer Recruits in order to discuss assignments, arrange study sessions, and clarify instruction given.
    
   REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
    
   Knowledge, Abilities and Skills-- 
   Ability to read and interpret assignments, policies, ordinances, state laws, reports, and updates regarding criminal activity. Ability to communicate knowledge and ideas in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in written form. Ability to obtain skill in the use of firearms and other related law enforcement equipment. Knowledge of computers and typing skills.
    
   Minimum Education, Experience and Certification-- 
   Twenty-one (21) years or over (18 years with 60 academic semester hours, college credit or two years military service). High school diploma; OR, GED. Able to successfully complete the minimum physical fitness for entrance requirements for Weatherford College Police Academy. 
   Other
   Be a citizen of the United States.
   Not currently on court ordered community service or probation for any criminal offense.
   Not have been convicted of, or placed on deferred adjudication or pretrial diversion for a misdemeanor of the classification "Class B", or its equivalent, within the last ten (10) years in any state or federal court.
   Not have been convicted of, or placed on deferred adjudication or pretrial diversion for intoxication offenses as defined by the Texas Penal Code, Title 10, Chapter 49, and Section 49.04. 49.05, 49.06 within the last ten (10) years.
   Not have been convicted at any time of a felony offense, or its equivalent, "Class A" misdemeanor, or its equivalent in any county, state or federal court.
   Not have been convicted at any time of an offense involving family violence.
   Have no criminal charges or proceedings pending.
   Not have excessive traffic tickets or accidents.
   Be of good moral character.
   If prior military service, have been honorably discharged from any and all military service or provide proof of acceptable military re-enlistment eligibility if service is uncharacterized.
   Not have had a license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement revoked.
   Must submit the following additional documentation: Birth Certificate, High School Diploma or GED Certification, High school transcripts, college transcripts, any college degree, DD-214 if applicable, Driver's License, Social Security Card, Current and valid vehicle liability insurance card listing the applicant specifically as an insured driver or other documents as requested for confirmation of details in application packet.

   Annual Salary:
     $41,660 ($20 / hour)
