On Saturday ,  February 17 ,  2024 at 11:01 a . m . , Santa Clara Police Department  ( SCPD )  officers responded to the report of a domestic disturbance near the 1000 block of Kiely Blvd in Santa Clara ,  Ca .  Officers received initial information that the suspect assaulted a family member and left his residence on foot . They received updated information that the suspect armed himself with several knives prior to leaving the residence .  
   SCPD officers located the suspect south of the 1000 block of Kiely Blvd . The suspect was still armed with knives and did not comply with the officers’ orders to drop them . The officers attempted verbal de - escalation tactics and the suspect did not comply .  Officers deployed less lethal devices to take the suspect into custody and they were ineffective .  During the incident , one round was fired at the suspect by a SCPD officer . The suspect was not struck .  The suspect was ultimately taken into custody after a brief struggle .  He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries .  The suspect remains in police custody .
