Preliminary information: On February 13 , 2023 , at approximately 7:58 p . m . , an Atlanta Police Sergeant patrolling near 241 Forsyth St . SW observed what appeared to be a vehicle break - in in progress . A vehicle parked along the street had a rear window broken out , broken glass on the ground outside the vehicle , and a male was in the backseat of the vehicle . The Sergeant approached the vehicle to investigate . During the encounter , the Sergeant discharged his firearm . The suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital alert , conscious , and breathing . A firearm was recovered from the suspects person . The Sergeant did not sustain any injuries . The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to the scene and will be the lead agency .
