Twelve Oakland Park residents are the latest graduates of the City’s Local Government Academy ( LGA ) . The LGA is a free , ten - week program that teaches participants about City operations .
Members of the LGA got an in - depth look into different City departments each week , including the Broward Sheriff ' s Office , Fire Rescue , Parks and Leisure Services , Public Works , Engineering and Building Services , Community and Economic Development , Library and Cultural Services , and more . Many past LGA graduates have gone on to serve on the City Commission and Advisory Boards .
The 2023 LGA took place on Thursday evenings from mid - September through November 30
