The Municipality of Princeton begins 2024 with a stronger stormwater ordinance as a part of its on - going sustainability and resiliency efforts .  
   Ordinance 2023 - 33
    , which took effect on December 29 , 2023 , requires that development applications include the anticipated effects of climate change in their stormwater facility designs . Princeton adopted the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection ( NJDEP ) Inland Flood Protection Rule provisions seven months ahead of the required adoption date to ensure that new development projects are designed to account for future ( the year 2100 ) projected storm events . This ordinance applies to developments that increase impervious surfaces by 5 , 000 square feet or greater or disturb ½ acre of land or greater .
