☷NIST Seeks Collaborators for Consortium Supporting Artificial Intelligence Safety

Hey , check it out! The U . S . Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology ( NIST ) is looking for people to join a cool new consortium . They want to develop innovative ways to evaluate artificial intelligence ( AI ) systems and make them safer and more trustworthy . This consortium is part of the new NIST - led U . S . AI Safety Institute that was announced at the AI Safety Summit in the UK . The institute and consortium are NIST ' s response to a recent Executive Order on AI . NIST will be working with industry and stakeholders to carry out their responsibilities , which include creating guidelines for AI capabilities and developing test environments for AI systems . The Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology is really excited about the consortium , saying it will help ensure that AI systems are safe and trustworthy . The U . S . AI Safety Institute will build on the work already done by NIST and others to make AI systems more reliable . They released a framework earlier this year to help organizations manage the risks of their AI systems . The institute wants to improve organizations ' ability to evaluate and validate AI systems . NIST is known for its work with the private and public sectors , and they ' re looking for collaborators to join the consortium . It will be a space for people to come together , share information , and have discussions about AI . The U . S . AI Safety Institute is creating a consortium for organizations interested in AI safety . Jacob Taylor , NIST’s senior advisor for critical and emerging technologies , says they are looking for organizations that can contribute expertise , products , data , and models . Interested organizations should submit a letter of interest by Dec . 2 , 2023 .
