The City of Cuyahoga Falls is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Automotive Mechanic in the City Garage.
Job Objective
Under the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled work in maintaining the City’s equipment and vehicles.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and at least three (3) years of related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license with CDL Class A and tanker endorsement. Must be able to maintain continuing eligibility under the City’s driver eligibility standards. ASE automotive or heavy truck certification is preferred.
Candidates must be a non-smoker and non-tobacco user, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff, etc. for the duration of their employment with the City of Cuyahoga Falls.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics; considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generators, electrical systems, and welding; grades or qualify of materials and equipment; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
Skilled in the operation of necessary tools and equipment; maintenance welding tasks and electrical system diagnosis and repair. Experience preferred in maintenance and repair of Refuse and HD trucks up to Class 8.
Ability to maintain effective preventative maintenance programs; ability to carry out assigned projects to completion; ability to adapt available tools and parts to accomplish necessary repairs and to evaluate circumstances and make decisions; maintain clean work area; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, vendors, and the public; and the ability to work varied shifts, including 2

shift during the winter program (November – March).
Additional Information
The starting hourly rate for this position is $26.22 per hour, with regular step increases the first 8 years. After 8 successful years in the position, the hourly rate is $30.83 per hour.
The typical workweek is Monday – Friday; 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (except during winter program).
