☷ Hot Springs Arkansas - McCabe and Garcia pass AML certification program

Mayor Pat McCabe and Karen Garcia of the City of Hot Springs Board of Directors were recently recognized by the Arkansas Municipal League ( AML ) for maintaining their status of Certified Municipal Officials through the AML’s Voluntary Certified Continuing Education Program .
McCabe and Garcia were among other certified municipal officials in the state who were honored during the AML 2022 Winter Conference , held in Little Rock on March 25 - 27 . They each had previously completed 15 core Level 1 hours in the program , and maintained their certification by earning six continuing education hours of study in subjects such as budgeting , personnel management and methods of effective leadership . To maintain certification , graduates must complete six hours of continuing education workshops each year .
McCabe served as city director for two terms during the late 80’s early 90’s . He returned to the Hot Springs Board of Directors in the fall of 2009 to complete the unexpired term of a former city director and prevailed in his re - election bid for the same position in the 2010 general election . On March 25 , 2017 , he was appointed mayor to fill the unexpired term for the previous mayor . McCabe serves as president and CEO of Levi Hospital , a position he has held since 1987 . He has served in numerous volunteer capacities that include the Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute , United Way of Garland County , Retirement Development Authority , Main Street Hot Springs and the Inaugural Board for Leadership Hot Springs .
Garcia , District 5 director , was re - elected in 2018 to serve 2019 through 2022 . She has been a lifelong proponent of community service . She volunteers for Head Start , Early Head Start and various other charities in the community . She has served on the City’s Airport Advisory Committee and as chair on the Transportation Advisory Committee , as well as a former commissioner on the A&P Commission and a former board member of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and the United Way of the Ouachitas . She currently serves on the MPO Committee at the Western Planning District and the Henderson State University School of Business Advisory Council . A certified public accountant , she retired from Weyerhaeuser in 2014 after a 27 - year career .
The Arkansas Municipal League is a service and advocacy organization for the municipalities of Arkansas .
