I want to take a moment and give a special thanks to the event coordinators , volunteers , residents , and visitors who made the 10th annual
Waking Windows music festival
a fun and safe event! It was amazing to see people gather again during this beloved Winooski tradition . Speaking of events , we ' re looking forward to our
Centennial Birthday Party on June 4th in Rotary Park
. Bring your families , friends , and neighbors for an all - ages , outdoor event to celebrate Winooski’s 100th municipal birthday - enjoy food , drinks , music , kid’s activities , and more . This event is free and open to all .
During our
City Council meeting on Monday
, we were joined by the
Chittenden Solid Waste District
who presented their annual budget with some good news - fees for residential waste disposal will not go up this year! We were also joined by the Nedde development team who presented updated designs for the hotel to be built downtown on the vacant lot behind the CCV building . The new design addresses concerns about increasing construction costs and improves the use of public space near the entrance to the hotel and Casavant Park . The construction date is still not set , but the project is progressing .

Later in the meeting , we appointed Eric Vorwald , our Planning and Zoning Manager , to represent Winooski on the Burlington Airport Commission . As the noise insulation program for area homes is rolled out in the upcoming year , this will allow staff to stay closely informed on the progress and share any concerns about building codes and homes in Winooski . . Speaking of which , the City Council and staff leadership will be meeting for our annual
Policy Priorities and Strategies meeting tomorrow
( 9:30 AM at the Winooski Senior Center ,

) where we ' ll be reviewing our goals as we move into the next fiscal year . This is an in - person meeting , public participation is welcome .
In other community news , the Winooski Police Department recently
seized a large number of illegal narcotics
, which was the result of an ongoing investigation . I want to thank them for their continued commitment to the safety of our residents and to thank the South Burlington Police Department for their assistance in this matter . Moving onto COVID - 19 - what are the negative impacts you ' ve experienced throughout the pandemic? Your responses will help the City shape priorities and how we spend the $2 . 1 million in federal funding for recovery .

. Planning for in - person survey sessions for multilingual residents is currently underway .
Coming up: an important public meeting will be held by the Winooski Planning Commission on May 26th where they will hold a public hearing on potential changes to our land use and zoning regulations to incentivize the development of priority housing ) units with 3 bedrooms or larger , and affordable housing for low - to - moderate - income households . Public input is needed to ensure we are prioritizing the right housing .
