Mayor Joe Pizzillo delivered his State of the City address to a room of community partners and local and state lawmakers , along with residents who watched the
live - streaming video
on the city’s social media pages . His message focused on the importance of regional , state and local collaboration .
“It takes a great partnership; it takes a great team . None of this works in a vacuum , ” said Mayor Joe Pizzillo . “There ' s no ‘I’ in team and there ' s no ‘I’ in anything that we do . It takes all of us rowing in the same direction to get this job done . ”
Partnerships led to many of the city ' s successes and accomplishments this past year , including:
WeRIDE
:the award - winning micro transit system that makes it easier for residents to travel in the city , developed in partnership with the cities of Avondale and Surprise .
Downtown Goodyear
:the vision of a creating the heart of Goodyear is a reality as construction gets underway and more businesses announce they are opening at GSQ , thanks to the public - private partnership with Globe Corp .
Alice Cooper ' s Solid Rock Teen Center
:the non - profit organization founded by the legendary rock star will be opening in Goodyear later this year . As a result of the collaborative work between Solid Rock and the city , there will be a new , safe place for teens in the West Valley to learn and express themselves through the arts .
Mayor Pizzillo ' s top priorities in 2024:
Ensuring Public Safety:
public safety will always be a top priority . Goodyear will continue to be a place where our residents feel safe , and the city is committed to providing our first responders with the staff , training and tools they need .
Improving Roads:
investments will be made to continue to improve traffic flow on our city streets . The city’s newly updated Transportation Master Plan will help determine the projects that will take priority .
Sound Financial Management:
our conservative financial approach is key to the city’s success . We will plan wisely for the times we are in and the economic forecasts for the future .
Quality Amenities for Our Residents:
Goodyear will continue to grow into a complete city — a community that offers the services and amenities that our residents want and with the convenience of accessing everything right here at home .
Mayor Pizzillo also presented three community awards:
Goodyear Citizen of the Year Award:recipients John Cox and Joe Hester led the Goodyear Citizen Bond Exploratory Committee . The committee determined which city projects should be funded by bonds and helped to educate their fellow residents on the importance of voting in the bond election and taking ownership of the future of their community . The civic engagement of these two individuals demonstrates what it means to partner together for the betterment of our city .
Goodyear Corporate Citizen of the Year Award:Amazon is world famous for delivering packages across the globe , but it’s also delivering on what it means to be an engaged community partner in Goodyear . Amazon received this year’s award for its support of city events that bring the community together and for its various community projects that take place each year to enhance the quality of life in Goodyear .
Goodyear Youth of the Year Award:Hannah Mack from Canyon View High School is the recipient of the first ever Goodyear Youth of the Year Award . Goodyear is lucky to have a community full of bright and talented young people , but Hannah stands out from the rest . She was recognized for her work in and out of the classroom , which includes hours of community service , while maintaining a 5 . 2 GPA .
