This past Wednesday , I attended “Muffins with the Mayor” at Jane Long Elementary . I was invited by the 3
rd
grade class who wanted to ask me questions about being Mayor . The questions I was asked were well thought out . I make a point to scan the groups I’m talking with to make eye contact with them . If I can’t see their eyes , that’s a sure sign to quickly finish up . I was amazed at how attentive and well - mannered every student was with attention they paid to me . I hope this was the start of what will become an annual tradition .
This week was National Police Week . Some say it is a calling to choose to be a police officer . They respond to calls without hesitation , not because they have to , but because they choose to serve us and protect the community . They make our neighborhoods safer for everyone who lives in them . Next time you see one of our local police officers , smile and wave at them . That is such an easy way to send a “thank you” their way .
It was also National Public Works Week . We might not give much thought to how important the public works professional’s jobs are because they work in the background keeping our city clean and running . Stop for a moment and imagine what shape our infrastructure , our streets , water and wastewater services would be in without our dedicated public works employees? They also deserve a smile and wave to acknowledge how much they are appreciated! Support your community Richmond .
