The annual Longview Martin Luther King Jr . Celebration includes a full weekend of activities celebrating the life , message , and dream of Dr . Martin Luther King Jr . The activities are organized by the Office of Arts and Culture in collaboration with various city departments and community partners such as Arts!Longview , Longview Ministerial Alliance , Christus Good Shepherd , Partners in Prevention , Unity and Diversity Committee , and others .
The weekend begins Friday , Jan . 12 , with an opening reception and jazz concert at the Longview Community Center featuring the
David Whiteman Bandwith opening artist Calvin Tatum & King States . Tickets are $20 at the door or

On Saturday , Jan . 13 , a parade will be held at 10 a . m . on Martin Luther King Jr . Boulevard from Pittman Street to Foster Middle School . Following the parade will be a Community Festival from 10 a . m . to 3 p . m . at the Broughton Recreation Center and a Humanitarian Award Celebration at 6:30 p . m . , featuring award recipient District 2 Councilwoman Nona Snoddy .
On Monday , Jan . 15 , the community is invited to participate in a march from Broughton Park to Mt . Olive Baptist Church at 11:30 a . m . , which will be immediately followed by an Interfaith Service . Monday , Jan . 15 is also a national day of service , and residents are encouraged to volunteer .
