JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Utilities Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and related service activities for either water and wastewater facilities or parks; and to perform related technical duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and related activities of assigned facilities including all city owned buildings.
Participate in pump repair activities including bearings, rings, impellers, and mechanical seals.
Participate in electrical duties involving industrial and commercial electrical maintenance of water and wastewater plants; perform troubleshooting, repair and replacement activities for electrical motor controls.
Participate in valve repairs including electric, pneumatic, manual, air relief, butterfly and other related valves.
Participate in welding and fabrication duties; ensure safety of work performed.
Participate in facility maintenance activities; perform semi-skilled electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry duties for water and wastewater systems and facilities; perform sandblasting and painting activities.
Participate in pouring cement, create forms, pour and finish concrete.
Participate in the general maintenance of utility grounds including mowing, trimming, and weed maintenance duties.
Mix materials to be used on assigned projects.
Operate a variety of equipment including trucks, front-end loaders, ditch witches, dump trucks, air compressors, jackhammers, jet rodders, ram jets, fork lifts, and a variety of hand and power tools. Estimate time, materials and equipment required for jobs.
Responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care and appearance of assigned equipment.
Follows written and oral job instructions.
Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly.
Hears clearly and interprets hand signals when working around equipment and in street and alley traffic, using proper safety precautions.
Serve on standby crew for after-hours emergency work as required.
Maintain appropriate uniform appearance and personal hygiene.
Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
Work outdoors in temperatures of heat (100 degrees plus) and cold, freezing, and inclement weather.
Carry, hold and lift 100 pounds. Pull, push and drag up to 150 pounds.
Work in confined spaces.
Exposure to dust, noise, grease, smoke, gases, and infectious materials.
Work overtime, holidays and weekends as required.
Must be able to serve on scheduled call rotation.

Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSE:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
Possession of an appropriate valid Texas Drivers License and a good driving record.
Possession of or the ability to obtain a Class C Water and Wastewater Operator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TECQ) within an appropriate time.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of public facilities or water and wastewater facilities and equipment and/or parks and playgrounds preferred.
Knowledge of the methods and techniques of general maintenance and repair related to the area of work assigned, principles and techniques of water and wastewater system maintenance and repair, equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned, and the occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
STARTING SALARY
$ 14.96
Hour .
