The road used to access the Ashburn Metrorail Station has been renamed from Loudoun Station Drive to Ashburn Metro Drive . The Board of Supervisors approved the name change in April and the change was effective May 19 , 2022 .
New road signs have been installed and letters have been mailed to owners of the affected parcels to notify them of the name change .
The name change was made to provide clarity for drivers , pedestrians and public safety personnel as to which road accesses the Ashburn Metro Station . The Loudoun Station Drive name presented confusion because of its similarity to the name of the Metrorail station located two miles away — the Loudoun Gateway Station , on Lockridge Road .
The county’s road naming and renaming process is outlined in
Chapter 1020: Naming of Streets
of the Loudoun County Codified Ordinances .
Questions about the new name should be directed to the Loudoun County Office of Mapping and Geographic Information at 703 - 771 - 5778 or
by email
