The June 6 graduation ceremony for
Leadership Germantown’s
Class of 2022 was a milestone for its 16 participants , but it was a particularly special day for class member and City Procurement Director Cathryn
Perdue , who received the organization’s Jim Roberts Leadership Award . The annual , peer - awarded accolade honors a Leadership Germantown ( LG ) member who exemplifies a true servant leader , much like Jim Roberts , one of the organization’s founders and the late father of Vice Mayor Mary Anne Gibson .
“In this year’s recipient , I see the same values that our father held so dear . I know this because I’ve watched her for almost a decade as she’s worked to make a difference in every way she could , ” said Gibson , as she presented the award during the graduation ceremony . “She’s someone who’s never met a stranger , someone who’s definitely not afraid to get a little - or sometimes A LOT - dirty and , most importantly , someone who honors the memory of our father by upholding the values of a true servant leader: honor , integrity , respect and , yes , even joy . ”
Perdue said she’s honored to have been selected for the award by her classmates and LG board members , who were tasked with choosing an individual who stood out for their dedication , spirit and enthusiasm across all LG sessions and activities . “My experience in the Leadership Germantown program was life - changing , ” Perdue said . “The most important lesson I learned is when you allow yourself to be open to new experiences and embrace challenges , that’s when growth on a personal and professional level starts to happen . ”
Leadership Germantown Program Director Andrew Israel said he wholeheartedly agrees with this year’s choice of award recipient . “Cathryn is an exceptional person , ” he said . “She’s the first to volunteer for any task , has the most positive attitude and is truly a joy to spend time with . ”
Perdue said the six - month experience was invaluable and encouraged Germantown residents to consider getting involved . “Leadership Germantown provides an opportunity to have a better understanding of the operational and strategic side of how the city operates on a more up - close and personal level , including engagement in group discussions with top city leaders and officials , ” she said . “If you’re looking for a more in - depth understanding of city operations , community engagement , personal challenges , networking opportunities and professional and personal growth , I highly recommend participating in this very special program . ”
