KILLEEN , Texas ( April 3 , 2024 ) – The City of Killeen is returning to Stage 2 of the Water Conservation Plan , under the advisement of the Bell County Water Control and Improvement District #1 . The organization requested cities temporarily upgrade to a Stage 4 Water Conservation Plan on April 1 , following a leak at one its plants . Officials say repairs have been completed and the system is fully restored .
The City of Killeen wants to remind residents that we are still under a Stage 2 Water Conservation Plan and have been asking citizens to conserve since Aug . 1 , 2023 .
WCID #1 provides water to the citizens of Killeen , Fort Cavazos , Harker Heights , Copperas Cove and Nolanville , who were all under restrictions for 48 hours and asked to reduce their water usage by 30% . WCID #1 said the leak was minor and did not impact service or cause any environmental impacts .
The Water and Sewer division of the City of Killeen’s Public Works Department was proactive and ensured all storage tanks were full , prior to the Stage 4 water restrictions announcement .
WCID #1 and the City of Killeen appreciates all the residents who did their part to conserve this week and all year round . There is no boil water notice required .
