City of Douglasville Georgia - Keep Douglasville Beautiful Receives Governor s Circle Recognition 08 February 2024 ( news )

Keep Douglasville Beautiful recently received a 2023 Governor’s Circle Award for its outstanding achievements in community beautification and environmental sustainability . The Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation ( KGBF ) presented the award in recognition of exemplary performance in litter reduction , waste minimization , and community greening .
To qualify for the Governor’s Circle Award , affiliates must be certified and in good standing with Keep America Beautiful ( KAB ) , the national nonprofit that oversees state and local programming . Additionally , the affiliate must be an active member of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation ( KGBF ) network . Certified KAB affiliates are required to effect meaningful , positive , and lasting change by directly addressing community needs in litter prevention , recycling , waste reduction , and beautification .
“We believe everyone deserves to live in a clean , green , and beautiful environment , ” said Natalie Johnston - Russell , executive director of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation . The recipients of this award have made a tremendous effort to achieve that vision , and we’re thrilled to recognize their achievements . ”
In 2023 , Keep Douglasville Beautiful achieved significant milestones through its commitment to community and environmental stewardship . The Adopt - A - Road program saw remarkable engagement , with 170 dedicated volunteers contributing over 46 . 5 hours to collect an impressive 1 , 492 pounds of trash , saving taxpayers a total of $8 , 553 . 31 . The recycling event , held in the Fall and Spring , supported by 23 volunteers and 525 participants , resulted in the responsible recycling of 32 , 720 poinds of metals and electronics . Additionally , the Bring One for the Chipper event allowed them to recycle 215 Christmas trees . Beyond these accomplishments , the organization actively hosted various community events , including the MLK Day of Service , Church St . Farmers Market , Spring and Fall Downtown Planter Refresh days . Those collective efforts underscore Keep Douglasville Beautiful’s commitment to making a positive impact on both the environment and communities they serve .
