Plymouth City Manager Dave Callister has announced the appointment of Katie Langland as destination marketing coordinator – a new position tasked with developing the city’s destination marketing organization ( DMO ) .
   Similar to a convention and visitors bureau , Plymouth’s DMO will promote the city as a destination for high - quality tourism and visitor experiences . The position is funded by the city’s lodging tax , which is collected during hotel stays as part of the tax to rent a room . The DMO functions as an internal organization operating out of the Parks and Recreation Department .
   “We are excited to welcome Katie as the city ' s first DMO coordinator , ” said Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Tomlinson . “She brings a wealth of knowledge , experience and energy to Plymouth , and she is a proven leader in the successful operation of destination marketing organizations . ”
   Langland comes to Plymouth most recently from the City of St . Michael , where she worked as a communications specialist and engineering/planning assistant . She also brings experience from her time with Discover St . Louis Park and the Minneapolis Northwest Convention and Visitors Bureau .
   Langland noted that she is excited to begin work in the city and looks forward to meeting community members .
   “The City of Plymouth is already well established – it has the parks , trails and venues that attract great events and visitors , ” Langland said . “I’m hoping to take it to the next level by bringing economic impact to the city . I’m excited to help bring new ideas to life and make goals a reality . ”
   Langland has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and public relations from St . Cloud State University .
