The City of Mansfield is proud to continue a decades - long tradition of local Juneteenth events and host this year’s Juneteenth Celebration on the first year as a nationally recognized holiday .
   This free event will be held from 10 a . m . to 4 p . m . on Saturday , June 18 , at the Dr . Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts , 1110 W Debbie Lane . The celebration includes live music and performances , food , a kids zone , community vendors selling artisan crafts and a historical exhibit highlighting black history in Mansfield .
   “For many years Mansfield’s Juneteenth has been one of coming together in remembrance and celebration and it’s important to commemorate this year’s holiday as the first as a national holiday” said Mayor Michael Evans . “I invite the community to join us whether it be for the first or hundredth time . ”
   Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States . This celebration pays tribute to the spirit of resilience and determination of the African American community and acknowledges their countless contributions to our country and community .
   Performances
   Performances include funk band Synergy , All Funk Radio , vocal group Legendary Creators , the Bethlehem Baptist Church Praise Choir , a one - woman performance about Juneteenth by Terrhonda Hillman , roller skating break dancer Denzel Allen , poet Alicia Azahar , singer Miran Pinkston , Xplosive Dance , and Xplosive Step , hosted by nationally renowned spoken word poet Mike Guinn .
   Traffic and Parking
   There is plenty of free parking at the venue . Mansfield Police Department will be on hand to direct traffic in and out of the center .
