During the early morning hours of 1/5/2024 , Officers responded to a Baker Way residence for a home burglary and vehicle thefts . Initial investigation on scene revealed that multiple suspects forcibly entered the residence in search of vehicle key fobs . Once obtained , the suspects stole two vehicles from the driveway and fled the scene .
Officers also responded to a Stout Road residence for a similar report . Multiple suspects made entry into a residential garage , but fled the scene before making further entry and failed to steal any vehicles from the residence .
Numerous jurisdictions throughout the State of New Jersey were targeted last night with similar incidents . These incidents are believed to be a part of a larger network of auto thefts that have been ongoing throughout the State . Suspects within this operation are targeting high - end luxury vehicles .
The cases are being investigated by Det Makwinski of Hopewell Township Police Department , in conjunction with the New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force as well as various local jurisdictions . Additionally , there will be increased patrols in our residential neighborhoods .
We are reminding our residents to secure their homes , vehicles , and property . We ask that , where available , utilize your security systems and surveillance / Ring cameras / etc . Remain vigilant of any suspicious vehicles in your neighborhoods and report any suspicious activity to Hopewell Township Police Department at 609 - 737 - 3100 ( or 911 if there is an emergency ) .
