   The National Weather Service is forecasting snowfall continuing through the day today with total accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected by mid - morning tomorrow , Tuesday January 16

    . Extremely cold temperatures are forecast over the next 48 hours with wind chills into the single digits or below zero forecast for Tuesday night . Residents and visitors in Frederick County should be prepared for dangerously low temperatures , with adequate clothing to prevent hypothermia if venturing outdoors . Residents should ensure that they have primary and back - up methods to provide heat and a plan for getting assistance if heating methods fail .
