Frederick County is pleased to announce that they have been awarded road improvement projects in the upcoming Six Year Improvement Program .
   Stonewall District Supervisor and Chair of the Transportation Committee Judith McCann - Slaughter said , “These improvements are an excellent step forward in transportation projects in Frederick County . It is wonderful to have these issues being addressed and to see the projects listed with expected construction dates . We look forward to work starting to help relieve congestion in these areas . ”
   The announcement was made at the Commonwealth Transportation Board Meeting on April 19 that Frederick County would receive the following:
   
   Redbud Road Realignment revenue sharing award in the amount of $1 , 787 , 000 . This will be coupled with $1 , 787 , 000 in local funds and $1 , 842 , 000 in previously allocated state funds to realign Redbud Road to a new intersection with Snowden Bridge Blvd . and disconnect it from Route 11 North . This project is expected to be constructed in fiscal year 2023 .  
   
   Exit 317 NB Ramp relocation and turn lane improvements . The project awards $6 , 944 , 000 in state funds to realign the I - 81 Northbound exit ramp at Route 11 North to the previous location of Redbud Road , thus aligning it with the on ramp for I - 81 northbound . This will remove the signal at the existing Northbound ramp location and will significantly increase Northbound left turn capacity at the Northbound on ramp . The County is also working to leverage this improvement into additional interchange upgrades at Exit 317 in the upcoming round of VDOT’s SmartScale application process . This project is expected to be constructed in fiscal year 2025 .  
   
   Route 11 North and Old Charlestown Road Roundabout Installation . This project awards $6 , 357 , 000 to upgrade the intersection of Old Charlestown Road and Route 11 North to a roundabout design from the current temporary signal design . This design will better accommodate the anticipated growth in traffic in this intersection due to residential growth as well as accommodate north and south traffic on Route 11 North . Roundabout designs have vastly fewer conflict points than traditional intersections which will also contribute to safety at this intersection as well . This project is expected to be constructed in fiscal year 2025 .
   John Bishop , Assistant Director of Planning and Development/Transportation echoed the thoughts of Supervisor McCann - Slaughter: “Getting funding for projects is extremely competitive and it’s great to see these three projects slated for construction . ”
