BILLINGS - City of Billings Director of Aviation and Transit Kevin Ploehn has announced he will retire this year .
Ploehn has worked for the city for almost 33 years . He began leading the aviation and transit department in 2015 .
He shared a statement with local media outlets on Friday afternoon .
“After more than 32 years of working for the City of Billings , 28 of which were at the airport , I have decided to pursue other activities which my wife Carolee and I have always wanted to do . An exact date for my retirement is pending and will be determined once the process of finding my successor is underway . I have truly enjoyed my career with the City and I consider it a privilege to be acquainted with so many great people because of that opportunity . ”
City Administrator Chris Kukulski has started looking into options to fill the position by talking to Ploehn , along with industry leaders and recruitment firms .

Updates as Ploehn approaches retirement will be given at city council meetings and on the city website .
