The
Deputy Sheriff (POST)
position is responsible for maintaining law and order by enforcing State and Federal laws and Municipal and County ordinances as required for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare and property, serving legal processes of courts, and serving as lead worker as needed.
Minimum Rate:
$56,030.72 annual, $26.94/hr. (Grade 113)
Additional $2.00/hr. shift differential for hours worked outside of business hours (7 a.m.-5 p.m.).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Drives vehicle through assigned area of County, observing traffic violations and issuing citations and verbal warnings.
Controls the flow of traffic at accident sites and assists accident victims by providing emergency aid pending arrival of ambulance; controls traffic flow for fires, ambulance calls, emergency scenes and public functions and at times when traffic is inhibited.
Performs a variety of patrol and public service duties to include investigating suspicious persons and vehicles, responding to calls for service, assisting citizens in routine and emergency situations, performing conflict intervention, rendering first aid and responding to alarms and disturbances.
Trains new employees.
Investigates criminal cases ranging from crimes against persons and property to crimes against peace, order and decency; takes custody of evidence, controls activities at the crime scene, interviews witnesses and suspects and prepares various written reports.
Assists citizens by providing information varying from giving directions to solving problems through face-to-face and /or telephone contacts; provides general and specific law enforcement and community service information; provides crime prevention services to the public.
Locates suspects and takes them into custody based on previous criminal investigation, arrest warrants, or probable cause determination.
Prepares and maintains detailed department reports and records which include crime, incident, informational, and accidents, as well as other reports as needed; acts as liaison with outside agencies as necessary.
Compiles written reports for referral to the District Attorney's Office, Probation Office, Courts, and other police agencies.
Serves subpoenas and summonses, writs, and restraining orders; conducts residential and commercial evictions; repossesses various properties for banks, landlords, and other parties.
Provides sworn testimony in court and administrative hearings as required.
Assists with the coordination of incident command in emergency situations, when required, such as search and rescue operations, wild land fires, declared disasters/emergencies, aircraft emergencies, bomb threats, and jail incidents.
Provides in-service training to Deputy Sheriff employees.
Assists Animal Control unit with various animal complaints including dogs at large, barking dogs, and vicious animals.
Provides crowd control at large, special events when required.
Serves on Department Special Response Teams in conducting raids, high-risk arrests, surveillance, and hostage rescue when required.
Performs background investigations on Sheriff's Office job applicants as required.
Performs duties of department dispatcher, detention officer, prisoner transport officer, or court security officer as required.
Searches and assists in locating missing persons or bodies.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
