DURHAM NC ( Friday , February 2 , 2024 ) – Just after 6:00 a . m . , on Saturday , January 27 , a deputy on patrol in the 3400 block of Hillsborough Rd observed a vehicle with fictitious tags parked at a business . He exited his patrol vehicle and as he approached the Toyota sedan to investigate , he observed two people sitting in the front seats . He requested that the male in the driver’s seat roll down his window , however , the driver refused , instead fleeing from the parking lot . As the driver left , he struck the deputy ' s marked patrol car , exited the parking lot on to Hillsborough Rd , and traveled onto US 15/501 at a speed in excess of 120 mph . Additional responding deputies searched the area , but neither the suspect nor the vehicle were located .
Through investigative means , the driver was identified as Randall Lee Hargraves Jr . , 50 , of Durham . Hargraves has a lengthy criminal history , active open warrants , and was an absconder from probation . The Durham County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad developed information regarding Mr . Hargraves whereabouts and on the afternoon of Thursday , February 1 , with the assistance of the DCSO K9 unit arrested him without incident in the area of Main St and Alston Ave . Hargraves was booked into the Durham County Detention Center after receiving a $248 , 000 secured bond from a magistrate on the following charges:
4 counts Common Law Robbery
3 counts Larceny from a Person
2 counts Misdemeanor Larceny
2 counts Robbery with Dangerous Weapon
Possession of Stolen Goods
Felony Conspiracy
Drive Wrong Way on Dual Lane
Driving while License Revoked
Fail to Burn Headlamps
Fail to Heed Light or Siren
Fict/alt title/reg card/tag
Flee/elude Arrest w/MV ( f )
Hit/run Leave Scene Prop Dam
Injury to Personal Property
