POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Maintenance Services Supervisor under the supervision of the Custodian Lead Hand, this position is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall appearance of the buildings utilized by the Town of Hinton. This role will provide friendly, courteous, and professional services by assisting customers as required.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES
Custodial Duties
Sweep, scrub, or damp mop floors
Clean, strip, and wax floors
Vacuum and steam clean carpets
Service and clean washrooms
Dust and polish furniture
Spot wash/wash walls and windows
Ensure security of Town-owned facilities by opening and locking doors and ensuring all electrical items are turned off
Move large or heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies as required
Ensure equipment and custodial storage areas are tidy and routinely organized
Identify and report building deficiencies for correction
Remove garbage and paper/cardboard-recycling products
Ensure appropriate use of facilities by patrons and guests and enforce facility rules and guidelines
Ensure enhanced cleaning protocols to mitigate occupational and public health and bio hazards
Perform custodial duties and other related duties and responsibilities as required
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 6 months of work experience in a commercial or residential custodial industry is preferred
Knowledge of
Occupational Health and Safety Act
(OH&S),
Regulations
, and WHMIS
relating to requirements to perform work is preferred
Valid First Aid Certificate and CPR
Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including an Enhanced Operational Security Clearance
A Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of proper cleaning procedures and use of cleaning agents and materials
Self-motivated to work independently with minimal supervision
Use an orderly approach to completing work tasks
Working knowledge with commercial cleaning equipment such as vacuum and steam cleaners, auto scrubbers and sweepers, and floor polishers
Demonstrate the ability to provide exceptional customer service while dealing with staff and the public in all types of conditions
WORKING CONDITIONS

Hours
Able to work flexible shifts including mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends as required.
Physical Effort
Mopping, vacuuming, sweeping. Potential exposure to hazards via garbage collection, dusting, use of cleaning products. Repetitive movements, moderate lifting, standing, walking, pulling, pushing.
Travel
Some travel to field sites within and outside the Town under various road and weather conditions. Must maintain alertness and respond appropriately using defensive driving skills in various conditions (traffic, weather, distractions).
Work Environment
Exposure to various Town-owned worksites from office environments to shop/yard sites. Hazards presented following unsafe handling of cleaning products.
