LONGVIEW , Washington — 
   
   Cowlitz County residents who meet certain eligibility requirements can now apply to serve on the Cowlitz County Board of Health . In July 2022 , the board will expand from three to six members in accordance with new legislation .  
   To be eligible , applicants must represent one of the three following categories: 
   •
   PUBLIC HEALTH , HEALTH CARE FACILITIES , OR PROVIDERS
    . This includes people who specialize or have worked in the health field .  
   •
   CONSUMERS OF PUBLIC HEALTH
    . This includes people who have experience with public health - related services and programs .  
   •
   OTHER COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS
    . This includes people who represent organizations that work with populations experiencing health inequities .  
   Applications are available on Cowlitz County’s 
   website
    and can be submitted to the Board of Cowlitz County Commissioners in person or by mail to: 207 Fourth Ave . N Kelso , WA or emailed to:

    .  
   There is no deadline to submit an application . Applications will be accepted until all three positions are filled .  
   The Cowlitz County Board of Health oversees all matters pertaining to the preservation of life and health of people in Cowlitz County .  
   The board meets quarterly to hear updates from Cowlitz County Health & Human Services , which fulfills a variety of environmental and community health , human services , and administrative functions .  
   Changes to the Cowlitz County Board of Health come as a result of 
   House Bill 1152
    , which was passed in 2021 . The bill requires local boards of health to include an equal ratio of elected and non - elected members .  
   New members will join Cowlitz County Commissioners Arne Mortensen , Dennis Weber , and John Jabusch who already serve on the board .
