The Town of Davidson invites the community to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony celebrating the reopening of the Town of Davidson Public Safety Building located at 216 South Main Street on Thursday , February 8 , 2024 , at 5:30 p . m . Mayor Rusty Knox will kick off the event in front of the newly renovated building with brief remarks and celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony . All are welcome to join the special occasion and gather in the outdoor horseshoe in front of the facility .
Renovations made to 216 South Main Street were funded with voter - approved General Obligation ( G . O . ) bonds . The new space provides much needed expansion for the Davidson Police Department adding workspace for both current and future needs , forensic evidence storage , and a secure exterior space . The renovation also includes office space for the Davidson Fire Department Command Staff .
“I am proud and honored to invite the Davidson community to see the improvements made to the Davidson Public Safety Building , ” said Mayor Rusty Knox . “As the needs of our community grow , we are pleased to provide this place in order to support our public safety servants , both the Davidson Police and Fire Departments . ”
Main Street has been home to the Town of Davidson’s Town Hall since 1933 , with a small building erected at 216 South Main Street in 1961 . The Town Hall remained in this location until the spring of 2023 when the Davidson Town Hall & Community Center opened in the rehabilitated Davidson School building at 251 South Street . The facility , a long - standing municipal building newly renovated to the Town of Davidson Public Safety building will retain its original naming for former Mayor Russell Knox .
“I’d like to thank our internal and external teams for bringing this project to completion , ” said Assistant Town Manager Austin Nantz , who managed this public facilities project . “We appreciate the efforts of elected officials past and present , Town staff , and community members who helped bring this to fruition . ”
