San Juan County represents the best of the Pacific Northwest with meandering meadows, magnificent shorelines, accessible trails, and spectacular water views. The San Juan Islands lie in the Olympic Mountains "rain shadow" and enjoy an average of nearly 250 days of sunshine and about half the rainfall as Seattle. The islands have a temperate climate year round with average high temperatures rarely exceeding 75 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer and about 45 degrees in the winter. We are looking for a self-motivated and talented Communications Coordinator to oversee our communication efforts. The successful candidate will produce high-quality content that engages both citizens and employees. As the county's first Communications Coordinator, the candidate will have a unique opportunity to establish a communication office integral to the success of county programs and initiatives. Main duties will include crating informative content, press releases, articles, and social media opportunities to share our county's plans, programs, and services. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with brilliant presentation and organization skills.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for overseeing the communications efforts of the county, including public relations. Duties include conducting research, communicating with media to address county news and implementing communication policies and procedures.
Creating informative content, press releases, articles, and media opportunities to share the county’s status and services, contribute to the county website and social media. Organizing meetings and presentations with county staff and residents to effectively deliver the county message to employees, the public and the media. Possesses superb written and verbal communication skills, excellent presentation and organizational skills and have in-depth knowledge of communications trend analysis.
