☷ City of Fairfax Virginia - Commission on the Arts to Present the John Mason Arts Achievement Award April 29

   On April 29 , following the 8 p . m . performance of
   Trio Peridot
    at the Stacy C . Sherwood Community Center ( 3740 Old Lee Highway ) , the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts will present the John Mason Arts Achievement Award , the Business for the Arts Award , and honor the winners of the Language Arts 123 competition . A champagne reception will follow the Bonita Lestina Old Town Hall Performance Series concert and awards presentation .
   Awardees
   Robert Golden
    will receive the 2022 John Mason Arts Achievement Award . His passion for the arts energizes everyone around him , and the opportunities he has created for local artists and the endeavors he supports continue to infuse the city with vitality .  
   Mara Hair & Mode Studio
    will receive the 2022 Business for the Arts Award . The studio has generously brought various disciplines of art and creativity to the community . The inspiring boutique features handcrafted items and has pioneered several festivals within the city to bring residents together .   
   The 2022 Language Arts 123 winners are
   Marissa D’Orazio
    for
   The City of Fairfax
    ( first place ) and
   Michael Burgos
    for
   A Day for Discovery
    ( runner up ) .
    
   John Mason Arts Achievement Award
   The John Mason Arts Achievement Award is a prestigious award established in 2001 to recognize individuals within the City of Fairfax community who have made an exceptional contribution to the development of the arts ( dance , music , visual arts , literature , etc . ) during the previous year .  
   Past recipients include former City of Fairfax Mayor John Mason , for whom the award is named , Bonita Lestina , Ray and Sharyl Abell , Dr . Joseph Kanyan , The Honorable Jane Woods , Mrs . Geraldine Sherwood , The Honorable Joan Weaver Cross , Dr . and Mrs . Tom Hill , and Joanna Ormesher .  
   Business for the Arts Award
   The Business for the Arts Award was established in 2014 . It is granted to businesses that have made significant contributions to the advancement of the arts in the City of Fairfax community and which directly impact city residents . Past recipients include Twins Ace Hardware and Kimco Reality Corporation .
   Language Arts 123
   The Commission on the Arts sponsored the second annual Language Arts 123 competition—named , in part , for a well - known thoroughfare in the city . Competitors were invited to submit fiction or non - fiction written entries on topics related to diversity .
   Commission on the Arts
   The City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts was established in 1979 by the City of Fairfax Council to encourage , promote , and provide opportunity for artistic expression within the city . Since then , the Commission on the Arts has been working to continue the enrichment of the community through funding , information , encouragement , exhibits , education , and coordination .
